Cant disagree Miller. As of now, local sportswriter is pumping Chris as undervalued. May be Chris is oping for better offers as FBS scramble to fill classes. If that’s true,he may just sit out LSD to see what he might get.Risky,if schools he might consider have used up their schollies.Well, regardless wish hom well. Hope he makes the right decision for him.

FBS schools can’t split scholarships. If he has a scholarship offer from USF, it’s a full ride.

True bum. The point with USF tho is thrre gray shirting. A recruit is brought in with no schollie for one semester. Thus,he doesn’t count vs NCAA annual limit. He the gets full ride the next semester. USF is infamous for using this loophole. Risk is that coach decides after having recruit for the fall that he doesn’t really want him.So no full ride. Brad Smith came to us rather than get gray shirted at USF.

Good point Stabler and good follow Rich. I think Head Count schools (FBS football) can give non athletic financial aid to preferred walk-ons. Even give a kid an academic scholly when needed, just so it doesn’t go against the 85.

Bit more complicated for FBS. Gray shirt can receive aid but cannot participate in any team activities. As a recruited athlete, the second he does he counts. So,for a recruit he is looking at sitting out 1st year on the non binding promise of coach that he will get a schollie in the Spring. Not all do.
It all boils down to Chris’ priorities. Up to hom.

If he can get into Lehigh, he should have a free ACADEMIC ride at USF. Florida and other states have programs that let kids attend state schools free, or depending on GPA/SAT combo, a massive discount. And Florida has perhaps lowest in-state tuition anywhere.

Maybe that’s the gig: Preferred walk on at USF, or be a star at LU and pay $20k or whatever waiting for financial aid to let him know? I know of a kid who took a similar cheaper route at an SEC school last year (where he’ll never play) vs. a PL school (where he would have).

Money talks, but no way is a degree at USF comparable to one at Lehigh — unless you’re going to be an artsie.
