Re recruiting for next year, we need athletic wings 6’5-6’7 players who can defend multiple positions, get out in transition game, and rebound on both ends. We’ll know where we are with Mackey, and if we’re right, you got him and CJ for the next two years, with Gabe down low. Hopefully Grenier develops into the 3rd big piece of that CJ/Gabe class, and if so, we’re in great shape for the CJ Era…..
We already have three commitments for next year:
Conroy Baltimore – Archbishop Stepanic – Baltimore looks to be the highest rated of the three at this point. He plays inside for his high school team, which won the CHSAA class A championship last year, but plays on the perimeter a bit in AAU. He could be the long athletic 3/4 guy to rebound, defend, and get out on the break. Also had offers from: Wagner, St. Peter’s, New Hampshire
Corey Schaefer – a 6’0 PG from Iowa without a lot of information. Looks to be who we signed after Rickey Johnson Jr. de-committed. Is said to be a solid PG with a high basketball IQ, and a good perimeter shot. (Pretty standard PL-level player write up). Unclear on other offers.
Stefan Curkalj – a 6’4 shooter from the Toronto suburbs who had interest from Bucknell, Northeastern, Princeton and supposedly some high majors (Virginia, Stanford) but unclear on offers. Seems to be quite hyped by the Canadian media, but I’m not sure about the level of competition. From same league as Bucknell’s Bryson Johnson.
It’s unclear how many scholarships we have for next year. We lose Ojo and Keefer who I believe are both on scholarship, as well as Safstrom (no schollie) and Small (unclear). I think those 3 could very well be the entire class for us next year.

It appears that these three recruits bring the LU scholarship count up to the NCAA max of 13 depending on Bailey’s status for next year (Adams, Bailey, D’Orazio, Greiner, Hamilton, Knutson, Maneri, McCarthy, McCollum, McKnight, plus the three recruits all have been reported to be scholarship athletes.). If it appears in the spring that Bailey will be unable to play, then one more would presumably be available. (I am assuming LU has no internal scholarship limit similar to what Bucknell had or what Lafayette has.)
November 1, 2010 at 10:57 am #2573Baltimore looks to be what the Dr. ordered, versatile and can defend multiple positions. At 6’6 he plays inside in high school, but seemed to spend summer rounding out his perimeter game in the AAU circuit. If he can hit the open 15′ J and defend 6’5-6’8 guys, I’m all for it.
If this is it for next year, two guards and Baltimore, it makes Adams and Greiner 2010-11 huge for the future of this team. Man O man if McCarthy could just channel a healthy Mgebroff, this team would be unstoppable!
