1. Does anyone know if Peters is getting a scholarship? To me, it looks like he is a walk-on, but I can’t find anything definitive.
2. If you don’t count American’s transfer (a center from GMU), I don’t think their class is #1. I’d rank Holy Cross, Lehigh, and Bucknell ahead of AU – although AU is not done and Jones may bring in a juco or two (if he doesn’t leave for greener pastures first). ESPN doesn’t even look at a lot of the mid-major players, so I don’t put too much stock in their rankings.
3. AU lost a lot, but not their top 7. They lost their top 3 or 4 players, but soph Nick Hendra no worse than #5. Also, senior Bryce Simon this year was hampered by a bad knee all year, so he was not much of a factor. And their 7th senior (Markusovic) rarely got off the bench the second half of the season. They will definitely be hurting though, with only two returnees – Hendra and Lumpkins – from their top eight.

Just went by ESPN rankings AU seems to be a bit higher than LU. Jones will get JUCOs. Surprise if he doesn’t

Agree on Peters, but I think McCarthy is scholarship. His coach has stated that McCarthy has a full ride to LU.
March 23, 2009 at 4:00 am #250saw that also but I think that puts team over school limit for schollies. Someone must be getting need aid
if not him one of the upperclassmenMarch 25, 2009 at 1:13 pm #256Rich..Correct me if I’m wrong but Lehigh coaches have not always handed out full rides. They can therefore offer partials to more than 3 players.

Correct. But I’ve never seen anything in writing to tell whether Ojo, Small, and/or Buchberger got athletic scholarships. Counting the incoming players (but not Anderson, Gourlay, and Szalachowski), there are only 11 players I know for sure have hoops scholarships.
BTW, does Lehigh give out the NCAA max of 13 or the self-imposed 12 that LC, BU, and CU (maybe) have followed?
March 26, 2009 at 8:00 am #261I believe McCarthy is on scholarship, but will be playing a PG year at a prep school. That would explain why the team’s game notes do not list him as joining the team next season.
