I just read a short time ago on the Penn basketball website that former Lehigh basketball head coach Tom Schneider, the man who led Lehigh to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, died back on March 17th. He was 68 years old. Schneider had been teaching history at Polk State Lakeland Collegiate High School, a charter school in Florida, for the last 10 years prior to his passing. In a bit of irony, his wife Carol died only 12 days earlier on March 5th.

I saw Tom Schneider play back home at Bucknell in the mid sixties. Tall, slender shooter who loved the game. For me, a diagnosed sports junky, his passing and the uncertainty around MH bring back into focus that sports is far from the most important thing in life. 68 is way too young.
