I had same confusion as TMH; thought 3-4 meant NG and 2 DEs. What’s the distinction on the DT and DE? Gaps they line up in? Is it based on the O’s strong/weak side?
August 16, 2015 at 2:20 am #20998todd answer us yes.
DT on strong side usually. If the wide side of the field is also the strong side DE stays on wide side,as he is usually faster.
Watching video from Ariz and others that use 3-3-4 or the 3-3 stack, one thing very clear each coach customizes the D . The common factor is that all are attack oriented to get TOs and sacks. Downside ,as with all attack Ds,vulnerable to big plays. Seems Botts going with 1 S on top,the other tighter to LOS. Gives him more flexibility to blitz his LBs since Lambert can fill. A work in progress. DL s/b a postive factor and much bigger with 295,285,270 starting.August 16, 2015 at 2:29 am #20999Thanks Rich! If I wanna do some homework, what should I look up? 3-3-5, 3-3 stack?
August 16, 2015 at 2:38 am #21000I googled 3-3-4 leads to more than you want to know
. The article on Arizona was a good primer. It is becoming the rage in college it seems. The variations are myriad and confusing,at least to me
August 16, 2015 at 4:56 am #21001Aite here we go….. 1st team defense did not look that dominant. #32 gashed them on the opening drive. Corners still not tackling and fighting off blocks.. Nick looked good on the drive.. #58 on defense made several plays in a row on 1 series. In 7 on 7 Leaks got burned again badly. The 2s DBs played well forced a 3 and out… The 2 frosh backs are REAL… Miko suffered a concussion.. Redmond made plays against 3s wouldn’t look to much into that. But he did make the plays. Kudos… #17 and Lawson was 2nd string corners and they actually looked stronger and they also rotated in with the 1s in coverage.. I will tell u guys this. We are basically playing with 1 or no safety.. A lot of press coverage,, our corners gotta man up quick or its a long year again back there. 116 out of 121 in pass defense… But overall they played live and was very much pumped up the whole game..
August 16, 2015 at 5:08 am #21002Thanks fan,
Hope Micco’s is mild. Your description pretty much give eyewitness base foe most of the takeaway. Botts scraped 2 High to increasevpressure and create TOs. Lambert still at S but now down low. Who played high S ? Guessing Botts going to play around with combos until he finds what he likes. Couldvyou tell who were the 1 and 2 on DL, Mitchell and Palma at NG and Cavenass at Dt. Who else?August 16, 2015 at 2:02 pm #21003any sighting of a TE, lol, just curious
August 16, 2015 at 2:06 pm #21004No,no,no.. I saw some of them. They had uniforms on and everything. Yup they did
August 16, 2015 at 4:12 pm #21006I really just focus on the D since that’s LU main problem. I notice that Leaks and Rigauld didn’t really play that much, after starting the scrimmage, maybe 10 plays? I find it disheartening that they basically have the spots locked down, but continue to miss tackles and get burned. Lbs should be fine just finish tackles. It seems they don’t know what to do with Lawson. He plays safety and corner, where will he be on the depth chart? I imagine the corner position is up for grabs at second string, earlier in the week geis and Redmond were taking snaps with 2nd string, now Lawson and Montgomery are. The receiver position is missing Anderson and Kelsey, they also are the main return guys. The def line is solid and should be fine. By the middle of the scrimmage it wasn’t any first or second string units. I saw 1st string Lbs with 3rd string DBS and etc. they were just playing football at that point, so the comment about Redmond playing against just 3s was false. I was looking forward to the siegenthaler kid, didn’t see him on the field or at practices, he’s number 22, is he wearing another jersey number to practice in?
August 16, 2015 at 4:13 pm #21007How you guys like the new jerseys?
August 16, 2015 at 4:22 pm #21008Jerseys…meh. Admit I liked the brown, gold and white. No cluele on Siegenthaler. Didn’t see him in any pictures but I’ll look again. Not going to try to analyze 1s,2s,3s. Botts was mixing and matching looking for best combos.
Both you and fan commented on tackling. Andy said it would be an emphasis in spring and now. Got 3 wks to sort that out.
Any looks at OL?August 16, 2015 at 4:43 pm #21009Found him. He’s in team photo and DB photo. Who else got work in back 5? Thoughtcwe’d see Barrett and Siegenthaler. I dont think Botts has any slots locked down. He’s gonna keep moving guys around til he finds a group that works.
August 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm #21010Guys wasn’t trying to be misleading just calling it like saw it.. Redmond first takeaway was against the 3s… The pick was a deflection. But kudos we had takeaways…
How many guys travel???
Tuesday should be more of indicator of what’s to come…August 16, 2015 at 6:21 pm #21011it was 90,65,63,74,78,72, on the line, they did ok. Where did you find a team and position photos. And I don’t know how much to put into it but bragalone started the scrimmage. Brisker has been more impressive in practice. I just don’t what to think when we talking about who playing where, just to early!
August 16, 2015 at 6:37 pm #21012Thanks LG. Found them on twitter and facebook.LG,if you’re on twitter just follow todd cuddington. He keeps a list following coaches and players. I put them all there. Justin says he has a photo gallery on site also. Probably easier just to go there.
Think travel is 45,will check.
On RBs ,Brisker has picked up blocking assignments quicker so far. Dont see a downside to either.
Tues. Agree fan. Based on Sat,lineups will start to shakeout. But,dont expect that will be the be all and end all for opener. Next 2weeks will be the factor. Last week ,starting lineups will be set for CCSU. -
