I don’t think Doc has ever had full 13. Not a roster I can remember in which it was obvious he did, and quite a few that seemed like he didn’t.
Another consideration is sheer amount of newcomers. It will be hard to incorporate 7 new guys next year, is that there much of a need to make it 8? Tough question.
March 11, 2016 at 4:14 pm #26053Makes sense if he has 12 to hold off til next year to even out recruit flow. HereHere’s to some WOs in addition to Wolf then
March 11, 2016 at 4:22 pm #26054I have a hunch, it all started with McCarthy and his injury. In KM’s freshman year, there were 13 rides. I was told that KM was allowed to keep his ride and from that point on, it looked like we went with 12 and walk-ons. Again, all conjecture, but again with Title IX, someone may have determined that 12 was enough, considering that BR typically only plays 8-9. Last year was a real fluke.
March 11, 2016 at 4:24 pm #26055I think we’re really only looking at 6 newcomers – BA had a year with the team already. However, the point is solid. This also means is that if MH and CS2 decide to stay for their redshirt Sr. years, we’d be graduating 6 guys (and 5 schollies) at once. Maybe that’s a reason to hold off on adding more. Just a thought.
March 11, 2016 at 4:33 pm #26056McCathy went on to rowing. As far as I can tell that was the last year we were definitely at 13. We will be carrying 3 eligible for 5th years. Did not consider the implications of that.todd’s point well taken.
It would appear that since KM we may only have been giving 12 schollies .March 11, 2016 at 4:44 pm #26057March 11, 2016 at 5:02 pm #26058I think 12 is our max, and I think many of the PL also max at 12. Since we are at 11, I have a feeling the staff may be looking for a transfer who would slide into one of the three upper classes. If you look at a team like Colgate, they have gone from totally irrelevant to relevant with the use of transfers. They rostered 4 transfers this season and pretty much all of their good players the last 4-5 years have been transfers. BU and American also use transfers, and both had 2 this season.
We have also had 2 transfers coming in the second half of their college careers. Both, JRG and BJB, were guys we recruited heavily and didn’t get in the first go around. I would think you might see another guy pop up. Transfers are enormous in basketball these days, at the college and high school level. Nobody ever happy in this generation of kids. Wouldn’t help next year as they would need to sit for a year. Don’t see them adding a graduating player from elsewhere.
March 11, 2016 at 5:06 pm #26059Another thing to consider. If our “redshirt” guys, Alston, Holba and Sedore, are not studs, you may not see any of those guys back for a 5th season. In the past, we have let those guys walk and play elsewhere. Lehigh may have an unwritten type of 4 year, graduate and leave, rule.
March 11, 2016 at 5:09 pm #26060Dont know if we do or dont but if so it may not affect BA as he left school for the semester.
March 11, 2016 at 5:16 pm #26061I thought about that, but I’m guessing that BA will be making up those 12-15 hours in summer school over the next couple of years? I don’t think we can count on getting 4 years of BA on the court.
March 11, 2016 at 5:18 pm #26062Have we ever had a 5th yr in Bball?
March 11, 2016 at 5:22 pm #26063It was pre-PL, but one our all-time greats, Mike Polaha missed a season for injury, but returned to play all 4. Don’t know if we’ve had any since.
March 11, 2016 at 5:27 pm #26064I can’t remember a 5th year guy but Bailey, McCaskill, D’Orazio, and JRG all left with eligibility on the table.
Hope the guys who have missed a season all have the opportunity to make their own choices on the matter when the time comes.
March 11, 2016 at 5:33 pm #26065Hate to muddy this even more, but have we gotten any confirmation that JRG is graduating, and not returning next year? I don’t think we really know his scholarship status either. But, is it possible that he is coming back to play and take graduate courses (he’s a very good student apparently) next season. He could be our 12th counter. Maybe that is why he played more than normal in HC game? Verbal commits has always listed him as a scholarship player.
March 11, 2016 at 5:35 pm #26066I guess if you appear at Senior Day pagaentry, you are finished?
