TMH – I had known of that Loyola Chicago offer, and know he took an unofficial there, but figured this weekend was Loyola MD but perhaps I am wrong. Maybe he is doing an official at Loyola Chicago today. When I’ve seen him in video interviews he always lists academics first, so that has to be a positive for us at Lehigh!
Should be interesting indeed.
March 25, 2013 at 9:20 pm #9946Breaking news simelton is in the house!!!! Committed!
March 25, 2013 at 9:32 pm #9948Great news!!!
Only the future will tell us how well all these recruits will do but it seems to me that at least style-wise, Coach has managed to replace both the outgoing seniors and this year’s juniors with one class of recruits. More later.March 26, 2013 at 12:20 am #9949Awesome. So, 4 scholarship athletes coming in, and 1 preferred walk-on.
Next year we will have:
MM, AD
CS, SC, CB
JG, JC, DC
SW, AP, TK, MS
So, that is 12 scholarships. BB would be 13, but he is 99% gone, and was walk-on this year. Looks like Lehigh has a rule only to use 12.
Then you have TS and CR on the roster, so 14 bodies. Going to be interesting. Lot of competition in both frontcourt and backcourt. Definite rebuilding year, but hopefully playing solid basketball by January.
March 26, 2013 at 12:38 am #9950Yes, this is great news, and I agree TMH it seems these guys all fit the system. We lose a ton but I’m pretty fired up about what we have coming in. Very rare that you have 6 newcomers entering the program in the same year, and really a complete roster position wise of schollie guys. Miles at the point, AP at the 2, SW at the 3, JC at the 4, and big TK at the 5. Throw in a CR off the bench, another guy who probably could be on scholarship at a lot of places, and you got yourselves an injection of youth….that is exciting.
Great article on MS commitment: http://chicagohoops.hoops247.com/index.php/2011-08-04-18-06-26/1108-miles-simelton-talks-lehigh-verbal

March 26, 2013 at 12:44 am #995190 – To your point about competition, I mean assuming BB leaves which we think is likely but who really knows, but assuming leaves..RIGHT NOW on 3/25/13 who can you put a sharpie to and guarantee is in the starting 5 next year other than MM? The answer is no one.. I mean obviously JG has a leg up in front court over 3 newbies to the college game in JC/SW/TK, but that is not a guarantee, far from it. In backcourt, MM is locked in at the point, and you’d think AD has a certain leg up after starting so many games this year, and he will start early on but no guarantee by end of year he starts all year. Guess teh point is there are a ton of options, and that is pretty cool.
March 26, 2013 at 12:46 am #9952Also kudos for Reed and staff for getting a guy in spring signing period, kept grinding and working and got a commitment.
March 26, 2013 at 2:39 pm #9954Really excited about the Simelton commitment. It was clear that the staff wanted a point guard, and they were able to go out and get their guy. I’ve been trying to compile a complete list of his published offers, and so far I have the below:
Loyola (Ill.), Northeastern, Northern Illinois, Chicago St, Miami (OH), UC Davis, Brown, Wright St, Wofford
Not bad at all on paper, and I love the video as well. Very quick and great elevation on his jumper.
March 26, 2013 at 6:38 pm #9961Another article on the signing

Congratulations!!
March 28, 2013 at 9:03 am #10002Videos look great. Hope he can contribute right away. A few quick players who can slash to the basket can make a difference.

http://www.csnchicago.com/preps/allstate-athlete-week-miles-simeltonMarch 29, 2013 at 1:10 pm #10017I really like what I’ve seen in Simelton vids. Seems to have that very natural-looking, comfortable handle, and can score several ways. Woot!
