No..it’s not the less than stellar play of our soccer and field hockey programs yet. It’s still early.
While attending the men’s soccer match I noticed that students were swiping their ID cards. There must be some kind of promotion going on because there was about 250-300 students at an OCC soccer game and perhaps an even bigger crowd watching volleyball. Does anyone have any info. Student involvement was a very welcome change.

I was at the women’s soccer game too. We need more speed.Left just after the half to catch some Spadola coverage at Starters.

TV for me, bits of Vball Msoc and Wsoc. Each more depressing than the last. WSoc painfully slow. Vball was exciting vs UNH.LU has good players but they are soft not mentally ready to win. MSOC most depressing. Look to have a good team. We dont yet. They were flat out terrible. Do hope we win something this wkend

I’m really digging the streaming Patriot League coverage! Might be unhealthy though – at least for my marriage/family life! Caught the WSoc, MSoc, and portions of both VBall games today. Hell, I even watched some BC-BU MSoc.
Agree with TMH on WSoc – looked sloooow. Tough and competitive, but slow. The Vball I saw today looked good – different level of competition, maybe?
Speaking of level of comp – is the NEC generally a good bit better than PL soccer? I honestly couldn’t find anything good to say about the MSoc game – ugly; looked outclassed. And looking at last year’s results, it appears that Bryant is lower half of NEC.

lol My W theatened to brick me into the den until after football season. My response that I ws watching soccer didn’t help. MSoc most disappointing. We are supposed to be pretty good. They were abysmal.Have no clue as to level of NEC compared to PL.I do like this digital network tho,
Dinner and a movie W happy. BTW Closed Circuit great movie. Got some verification on our future football scheds. Looks good. If I can post it I will.

To the original point of the thread: I saw one of the marketing guys tweet about GREAT turnout at a “Clutch’s Crew” organizing event. They were definitely present at several of the matches so far this weekend. Very encouraging!
My best bet is that this is some splash-over CJ effect. I think the hoops excitement got things rolling, and it’s contagious. If you have fun at an athletic event, you’ll look for other events to get together for. I know I’ve been paying attention to LU hoops for years, and that brought me to this board. Getting engaged here has dialed up my interest in the other sports. I’m guessing that the same has happened, to some extent, with student sports fans.

Good point Todd. One thing I’ve noticed from twitter is the athletes turn out for each other at events. Lots of Bball and Fball guys at Vball and soccer games. As we integrate our thletes into scool population it tend to bring more kids out.Whatever it is it is nic to see students coming out more than in the last 4-5 yrs.

    Rich,
Not sure why you were optimistic on men’s soccer. Last year we were 4-12-1. This year we are starting 3 sophomores and 4 freshmen. Women’s soccer was 5-13 and field hockey was 3-14.

On the bright sid however, Lehigh’s cross country teams both won the Lehigh Invitational. The men’s team is ranked #9 in the region.
The volleyball team (which is fun to watch) came back to wintheir final two matches. They will be a contender this year. This team is mentally tough. 5 sets came down to 2 points and Lehigh won 4 of them.

Guess I bought preseason hype on Msoc. Hoped for some improvement from FH and Wsoc. Cross country pleasant as was Vball, latter showed nice toughness.

The answer is an awesome idea Lehigh came up with last year. Lehigh-Laf football tickets are given out based on a rank determined by number of sporting events attended in the fall semester before the game. Throw that together with the fact that freshmen are excited to experience the school at the beginning of their college career, you get solid turn outs.

Yes, the swiping of the student id’s allows the U to track the attendance of the students and those who attend get ‘better dibs’ when the times come for rewards. Will be doing the same for wrestling with two raffles this year. One at first match and second at Iowa with students getting the number of chances in the pot as matches attended.
