I don’t think I realized how much I had emotionally invested in the class that just graduated. I really expected some stuff. Not fair or reasonable, but I did. That finish bugged me more than I expected. I’ll plug back in, and try to help again. Recruit sheets, etc.
July 19, 2017 at 10:28 am #31547I also expected more. AP turned out to be a nice player, but he never became the consistent, dominant scorer I had hoped for. Maybe it was post CJ withdrawal syndrome on my part. TK was pretty much what I expected. Big strong front court guy that could dominate in the Patriot. He did not exceed my expectations.
July 19, 2017 at 10:29 am #31548Welcome back Todd!
July 19, 2017 at 4:57 pm #31553Very disappointing end to careers of AP and TK. Then, the transfers on top of it to add to the disappointment.
We appear to be entering a down period, the first since the CJ era blended with the TK era. Since 2010, only one losing season in 2014. I think we are stepping back dramatically to the last couple years of the Taylor era and first 2 years of Reed era. For the first time in almost a decade, we enter the season with low expectations and no apparent dominant PL player.
Should be interesting. Need 1 of 2 things to happen to be good. Tejada is a stud who can carry offensive load and be All PL. Or, one of the freshman is a stud. If both aren’t happening, I think we are sub .500 led by KR and KL.
July 19, 2017 at 6:05 pm #31554or … Ed Porter is a stud, not sure I have heard much about him
July 19, 2017 at 6:13 pm #31555more likely however, team success will be driven by solid team balance with no player carrying the team. Not sure that is the worst thing in the world as the team has known commodities in KL, JC, KR and PA. just need some good minutes from 3 or 4 of the unknowns to balance it out. Team leadership an open question for now.
July 19, 2017 at 8:15 pm #31556Agree balance will benefit us. Too often last year we became TK centric. IMO the constant flow of tranfers has hurt us more than anything else. Just seemed as if we were constantly in various stages of rebuilding. Little doubt wr have talent and abundant atleticism. Can Doc build this into a balanced cohesive team? Dont expect any improvement on in game coaching but may be less necessary with cohesiveness in his system.

July 20, 2017 at 3:58 pm #31558Good teams have a go to guy who can get them a critical basket in a half court set. Whether it be end of game or to stop an opponent run, you need that guy. Committee doesn’t work for this role. I would have liked BA this year in that spot as he was such a good 1-1 iso player. But, he’s gone. Who is this guy this season?
July 21, 2017 at 3:09 pm #31562My biggest hope lies in KL. I like his ability to attack the basket, and he’s turned out to be a very good shooter.
July 21, 2017 at 5:29 pm #31563I think there could be several “go to guys” dependent on the opponent and how they defend and match up
July 23, 2017 at 1:01 am #31567I agree we take a step back. But how far is the question. I actually think we have talent on this team. I feel we will be a lot more athletic then prior years. I think the late pickup of karnik is going to pay off. I been saying this all off season. The one thing that really scares me is who is going to be the leader out there. One would say it should be Ross. Me personally I haven’t seen that in him in three years. I know tom was here but I think he could have been more vocal and not pout when things go wrong. I believe Kyle will fill that role. I love kyles game and I love his demeanor.
July 23, 2017 at 1:03 am #31568I agree tho we need a few guys to really step up. We have a lot of questions with a few guys. Can Andree give us more on the offensive and defensive end. Not just a shooter. What does lance bring? Will jack be ready to go and play a major role? I truly was upset with losing Brandon. I really thought that this year he would have had a huge year here. I really do. I was not happy to learn he left. Holba situation was very shocking to me.
