Now that the guys are in camp, time to speculate on starting O and D.
FB – Hayden and Farrell have this covered, only one other frosh FB on the roster.
RB – Sherman should get most of the work based on experience, but 2 are needed. Sodeke showed some promise last year in very limited action. I thought Brown and Kee would have had some impact last year, but they were pretty much non-existent. Who will emerge as the #2?
WR – Kurfis, Paris and Sergio seem to have this covered. Knott got some looks last year as a frosh. Any surprises here?
TE – Coyle and Colgate both have good size and some experience. This position seems well covered.
QB – BB seems to have inside track, but this should be wide open. Poutier out with injury right now. McHale more of a runner. Shafnisky highly touted but green. Visconti a walk on?
OL – real strength of the O, lot of quality and experience here, Lippy, Hood, Tugg, Douglas, Daryoush, Moore. And I like the Soph class as well (they can step in if injuries) as the new recruits.
Let’s get some discussion on this going.
Someone want to start the D discussion.
August 12, 2013 at 9:33 pm #10924good idea.Here goes
FB Crawford will see time on ST
RB Brown and Kee for 2nd. Sodeke for passing downs
TE Max should start. Coyle 2nd
QB yup
OL Owens ,James and Ford on 2 deep,Cohen and Duffy
WR Buford and Gaul right there. Trevor S. PR/KRAugust 12, 2013 at 10:11 pm #10925guys,
hearing Crawford looks good. i saw him play in HS — good althlete, ttough kid. not sure if i agree regarding RB’s. I think Sodeke will be the second rb; didn’t Farrell get reps at RB in the spring, and didn’t the coaches really like him there?
at WR, i thought Sansone looked really good. maybe he’ll have an impact?
August 12, 2013 at 10:24 pm #10927Farrell ecellent pass receiver and a tough runner.H-Back. To say we have a few good WRs a vast underestimate. Sansone and Gaul had great spring camp. Heck,Sansone an A-S WR in Missou.Ceech will use 9-10 WRs over the season.
Crawford will be special IMO. Absent injury tho dont see many minutes for him other than ST.
Do we have any outside speed at RB?August 12, 2013 at 10:54 pm #10928Thought Kee had some wheels?
August 12, 2013 at 11:42 pm #10929We’ll see Rich. We’ll see.
August 12, 2013 at 11:59 pm #10930Ok, K you’re being cryptic. Wasn’t Sean getting rb snaps because bunch of guys banged up? Do you really think he will get serious time at RB,other than as a pass rceiver?
August 13, 2013 at 12:59 am #10931Max not showing up on the roster?
August 13, 2013 at 1:05 am #10932Wow, he was on roster on friday. He was working out over the summer . Failed physical?
August 15, 2013 at 3:53 pm #10953Looks like only 3 FB fans here. Rich and Kramer, here are my thoughts on the D.
start with the easiest, DB’s – Rickie Hill and Tyler Ward man the safties based on experience but look for Lambert to get some time also, Courtney Jarvis should be first in line for a CB spot (although I worry about his size). Not sure about the other corner, Suggs, Damien Brown, Wilmington or one of the sophs?
DL – need 5 or 6 guys ready to go here. Kuntz, Layton, Newton, Gyles all should get rotations. Don’t know much about the sophs. Is Brad Smith ready to make an impact now?
LB’s – has been a strength of the D last few years and may be this year also. Nigel mans one outside spot and Mahoney and Campbell share the other. middle is wide open but expect Robb and Laub to be in the mix, Raup is a senior so maybe his time, Mitchell dropped Lax to concentrate on football and Heschke saw some action last year. maybe Bourgeois (like his size), Harvey highly touted frosh also.
August 15, 2013 at 5:38 pm #10955Seems that way. Molinari and Raup now off roster.Raup a surprise was mentioned as starter at ILB
Lots of depth
DL rotation of 6-7 guys.
Newton,Kuntz,Gyles.Layton,Remington, PALMA.Grossnickle,Jamgochian
LB Muhammed,Mahoney,Mitchell,Laub then Heschke, Campbell,Robb,BourgeoisDB Lambert,Jarvis,Hill,Ward then Suggs,Robinson,Wilmington Phillips,Rigaud.
Suggs looks more physically ready to get PT between he and Smith.
Lots of frosh on STs my guessAugust 16, 2013 at 1:03 am #10957I’m not as familiar with the defense as I am with the offense. I do like our LB’s; I do think they will be the strongest part of our D. I hope we can generate turnovers.
August 16, 2013 at 1:43 pm #10959Aww,K , lack of knowledge never stops any of us from posting….lol
My bored out of my skull comment, roster at 91 4 spots open for WOs and transfers. Perhaps we’ll see the rumored FBS transfer:)
August 16, 2013 at 2:47 pm #10960Aw Rich, you can’t drop a FBS transfer rumor without some hints!
August 16, 2013 at 2:56 pm #10961lol, sure I can. This one not mine tho. ngineer ( I think) mentioned it a while back. True? Have no idea.
