I’m fully aware that most posters have their favorite Lehigh sport. I am also aware that there were high expectations this year and for many some disappointment. I am here to tell you otherwise
Last year, Lehigh won 2 regular season Patriot League Championships (football and softball). They also won 3 Patriot League tournaments (Men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse and softball). The NCAA win over Duke was monumental. The football win over Towson was truly exciting as was the near loss to NCAA runnerup Maryland in lacrosse.
This year’s football team was one half away from duplicating it’s success and still sported a great 10-1 record. The basketball team was a fifth metatarsal away from doing great things all over again but still put together a rather fine season. Thanks to this weekend however, success has returned home in altogether different areas.
Prior to the weekend, we already captured 1 regular season championship in men’s cross country (1st Patriot League Championship ever). We also clinched the 1st Regular season Patriot League Championship in men’s lacrosse . Today, we won the Patriot League Championship in Men’s Tennis (1st ever ?). We also captured the inaugural Patriot League Championship in women’s golf. With a win in the second game of the softball doubleheader today, Lehigh will clinch a tie for the regular season championship. Colgate will need a 4 game sweep next weekend to prevent an outright championship.
If softball wins today, we will again have 2 regular season championships (men’s lacrosse and softball) and 3 Patriot League tournament championships (Men’s cross country, Men’s tennis and women’s golf). with at least 2 tournaments which we will likely be the #1 seed and hosting still to come.
It may not be quite as high profile but Lehigh still equals success.April 22, 2013 at 1:05 am #10183Good points. Yes, this was a year of adversity on several fronts. Don’t forget all of the significant injuries suffered by the wrestling team, which began the year in ‘rebuilding’ mode. Much to be excited about for the future of a bunch of these teams. GO LEHIGH!

April 28, 2013 at 10:55 pm #10240First of all, Congratulations to both the Men’s Lacrosse Team and the Men’s Golf Team on winning Patriot League Championships.
This has been one incredible spring for Lehigh sports. 2 regular season championships (Men’s Lacrosse and Softball) and 4 Patriot League Tournament Championships (Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Golf).
Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a job well done.
April 29, 2013 at 7:43 pm #10250Does anyone know how close we are to winning the President’s Cup for the first time. If softball does the expected in 2 weeks, Lehigh will have won 6 Patriot League championships this year, 5 in spring alone. Baseball, softball track and field (M &W) and I think rowing remain.

May 9, 2013 at 8:08 pm #10298So true. Joe has done such a great job. I recall early 60s when wrestling was our only sport winning.
