I don’t see how this move can be anything but positive. Our defensive scheme and performance has left a lot to be desired during Botts tenure. I wonder if Coen interviewed anyone else for the job.

D has made nice strides the past year and half. Sutyak seems to have been a good influence in his short tenure. Secondary has improved greatly. He should bring new energy. This appears to be a good way for Botts to begin transition to retirement. He’s been coaching over 40 years, so he has a lot of experience to tap into. Good move.

Not optimistic about changes. Hopeful a better word.

Tons of good stuff going for next year’s team.

But not sure how losing a well-regarded OC and shuffling folks around on a defense ranked 89 of 122 vs 106 of 123 the year before (yes, a nice improvement) are the silver bullets needed to get this team much further.

    I hope they are.

    I posted this on AGS

On the surface I like the moves!

Botts did an respectable job of improving the defense but the unit never reached the level of the one’s during his first stint as DC. Part of the problem was inheriting a defense, especially DL, that was completely devoid of D1 size. Only last year did it have SOME of the pieces needed to be successful at the FCS level. Hopefully Sutyak can continue instill a more aggressive/nasty defense that’s able to win the LOS on a consistent basis. Lehigh’s front 7 is still on the smallish side but not so much so that it can’t be a legit Top 25/30 unit.

Brisson walks into the perfect situation for a first time D1 coordinator. Lehigh’s offense literally returns just about every starter (2 5th year OL and QB Mayes counts) from one of the top units in the country. He doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel in 2017. His biggest task will be transitioning the offense from duel-threat Shafnisky to the pro-style Mayes on a full time basis. The only concern I’d really have is how he’ll handle situational play calling.

He does have big shoes to fill though. I thought Folmar was excellent as was Cecchini who held the position from 2010-2014. If nothing else, I don’t think Troy Brown could screw up next year’s offense.

Lehigh has been the most successful program in the PL and the constant staff turnover reflects that. 2017 has the potential to be a real special year for the Mountain Hawks. Keeping the changes in house was the smart thing to do.

Coach Botts has earned his Senior advisot position. If for nothing else putting together an excelle t group of assts.
Sutyak an excellent pick for DC. If Andy had delayed this move I am sure Sutyak would be a somewhere else next yr.
Coach Brisson an unknown factor but I feel he will be fine. As owl notedthe tatae is set for him on O. He has excelled at WR coach and recruiting.Plus he has worked during his career with excellent OCs. He knows what needs to be done.

Since Brisson assembled the talent in his recruiting role, I think it is really too natural for him to step into the Offensive Coordinator role. Brad Mayes already got plenty of gametime experience to step up. We have a great running game with Brags and the best receiving crew with Casey and Pelletier.
Brad isn’t as moblie as Nick, and maybe we will need to figure out some motion and option plays, which we’ve been lacking, but it’s Coach Brisson’s to put together. It’s gonna be fun.
