fr 14On O,looks like we will lose only 1 starter going into next year.
On d, looks like lose 7 startersThis year and next Andy should be able to win at least 8 each year.
April 14, 2009 at 3:15 pm #286I must have no life either Rich since I find this fascinating too Rich
There may be a couple starters lost on "O" depending on who ends up starting on the "O" line, but there will definitely be a lot of seniors to replace on "D". Happily, though, there are plenty of folks at DB and even in the "D" line to replace the anticipated starters (DT B.J. Benning and SS Jesse Sanchez).
Lost 3 senior LBs after this year will of course be a tough pill to swallow (4 I think if you count Troy Taylor), but I think Pierce has an extra year of eligibility because he was hurt one of the years? Taylor and Cohen for sure are entering their last years, and I think Brickner is as well. But if Pierce has potentially another year, that could be huge.
April 15, 2009 at 1:46 am #290I think too much can be made of lost starters. The key is how many guys coming back have quality time experience in a rotation? From what I read, there has been improved depth all around, which hopefully lends to good competition. Thing about college ball is you know ahead of time the guys are here for only 4 years so you need to keep looking down the road. Also–Winett has two more years of eligibility left and I see him becoming a force.
April 16, 2009 at 3:19 pm #291Winnett must be serious he lost 25 lbs. Guess he loaned themto Brown for the season. I cannot ever remember over my 40+ yrs of LU football, a team with as much depth as this year. A # of teams with a bit more top end talent No 4.2 speed this yr but a lot of 4.4/4.5 speed. Oscar’sOL bigger but reserves not nearly as athletic or big. Over kevin’s last few yrs we had a big edge over PL in talent. PL has caught up > Coen has built a bigger deeper squad with good speed and qbs he likes for the LU O.

Rich, your optimism is scarring me and making me a bit giddy all at the same time.
