At least this preseason outlook thinks so …

Likes the Mountain Hawks for 4th behind Boston U., Lafayette and Army.

Do you think Kempton will be in mix for the award?

I hope so. From the limited info we’ve seen, I think he’ll have every opportunity be a contributor quickly. Of course, what we’re hearing is very vague, but I interpreted the quotes from the good Dr. in the Blue Ribbon yearbook as very encouraging.
We’ve heard that he’s got post skills, can shoot from 15′, and at his size, that’s a pretty great head start in the PL. And there are minutes available, for sure.
I have to admit that TK is definitely a source of mystery, to me. We were able to find very little info about him during the recruiting process. There’s next to nothing about him on the standard recruiting-related sites. With his pedigree, I can’t help but wonder how we landed him. Taking what we’ve heard so far at face-value, he seems like a guy we’d lose to a higher profile program.
Maybe having a former-NBA’er for a dad allowed him to bypass the conventional recruiting channels; that’s my only guess. I’m gonna hope that he and his family were looking for something specific that Lehigh offers, or some combo of factors that made LU a perfect fit. And that the hoops gods have smiled on us again.
I would give my left arm – ok, maybe just a few fingers – to see footage from the Wagner scrimmage. But that ain’t gonna happen, so I guess we’ll find out how Tim and the other new faces are looking at Minny.

Works for me. We need he and Jesse to compete inside. Expect we’ll be a roller coaster this year but it’d be great to prove preseason picks wrong.

    toddcudd,
I agree with everything you said. I believe Tim’s mother was instrumental in guiding him to a school that had high academics. My question is whether JC is eligible for rookie of the year honors? If so, we may h have at least 2 on the all-rookie team. All speculation now though, soon they will lace them up.

Don’t forget AP as well! Both AP and TK had their individual goals set on ROY…hopefully one of them gets it, two roomies going for the ROY, love it.

But TK has a much more wide open path to ROY in terms of playing time….we’ll all learn some things starting 11/8, and I’ll be there!!!! FIRED UP.

PL rookie award is given to the top freshman, per the league bylaws. Thus JC is not eligible for ROY or the all-rookie team.

New poster – long time reader.

My guess is that LUs appeal to family Kempton was a virtual certainty that TK would see extensive PT from day one – which he would likely not get with a larger program. LU’s graduation record for athletes can’t hurt either.

Ditto, and agree, TK saw wide open path to playing time early, an offense he can play in plus good academics and was sold!

Thinking last night so question for you all – has there been an incoming recruit that the boards are all universally high on that we know less about? I mean we know his height, weight, name and dad credentials, but there is shockingly limited to Zero video on him and AriZona isn’t a hotbed for hoops really.

This team more then any has so many cool unknowns that have huge upside but still unanswered until season begins next week! Glad I will be in minny to see it start to unfold!

Granted we know a few things – other decent schollie offers, Zona prep boys poy, good reed quotes heightening expectations. If I asked everyone for TK expectations consensus would probably be 12/6 with 25 plus mins per game, right? I think that could be higher even but we will see, that’s be consensus probably if everyone guesses got averaged.

I think we will know a lot about Kempton in only a week’s time. His toughest matchups come right out of the gate, starting with Minnesota, then Houston and Pittsburgh. In those games, he is not going to be the biggest player on the floor, and will be playing against athletic big men. Those games should give us an early look. I will be looking for one critical stat in those 3 games, fouls per minute played. Young big men need to learn to control their body against athletes they have not seen in high school, learn not to foul, and learn how to stay on the court. Too often, we see young bigs (especially those who are not premium athletes) burdened by foul trouble. So, that is what I will be looking for early on. I think he will be effective and be able to score against the smaller 4s and 5s he will see in conference and in lesser OOC games. But, can he hold his position on the low block and can he handle bigger, quicker players on defense and on the glass? Hoping he has the maturity to do so. We know one thing, he has bodied up to a skilled, crafty big man, in his father, for most of his life.

Yes 90, the learning about what we have in TK starts a wel from today. Will be interesting to see how much he can hold his own against the big frontcourts of BCS conference bigs, what I am also curious to see is how crafty he is on offense – can he get shots off against bigs with his back to the basket? Can we throw it down low and isolate him against a big defender? Does he have reliable up and under, hook, and standard big man moves. If he flashes early man the upside of him in another couple years will be huge.

Perhaps I am setting the bar a bit low butall I want to see right now is how well he can defend inside and how long he can do so w/o getting in foul trouble.
