I attended the Lafayette/Navy game tonight in Annapolis, a game won by the Midshipmen 78-70. Navy never was able to fully put the Leopards away but Lafayette also never pulled within one possession in the 2nd half; essentially the Mids led by 5 to 11 points the entire half.

As a Lehigh Valley native who didn’t attend either Lehigh or Lafayette and roots for both (though if all things are equal I root for the Mountain Hawks when they play), I was really hoping for a Leopards win tonight. They’ve played some teams tough coming down the stretch, and I was a little surprised Navy was able to keep them at arms-length for about 3/4 of the game.

BTW LU65, I take it you didn’t attend the historic Lafayette/Lehigh Sunday afternoon clash at Stabler Arena back in 2004 when both teams were in contention for the PL regular season title. That game was a sellout or essentially a sellout and drew what I’m guessing was a Lehigh home game record (5206) that probably included 1500-2000 Lafayette fans in attendance. The atmosphere was electric that day at Stabler. Incidentally, the Mountain Hawks won that game en route to the PL tournament title. (I think they also won the regular season title that year.)

Bucky will be going against a Holy Cross team who could either lose by 30… unless they get hot from outside and get an early lead, whereas they will be absolute heck to beat from behind.

I don’t like playing the academies in the PL tournament…l maybe it’s because of agonizing losses to Army at home in the last decade… but having said that I think it could be a good matchup for the Hawks.

I also think Army will beat Colgate handily and either pound Holy Cross at home or give Bucknell everything and a bag of chips in the semi’s. I think Army has an excellent shot to make the final.

Couldn’t agree with you more, LFN, when it comes to Army. I doubt they’ll struggle with Colgate – a team that has lost 4 of their last 6 including a 10 pt. L to AWP along the way. During that stretch, they’ve given up 79 ppg to their opponent. Army, on the other hand, winners of their last 5 of 6 scares me and, I’m sure if you asked our friends out in Lewisburg, they scare them, too.

I’m hearing that HC decided to reach Lewisburg tomorrow
via Worcester. This, following their win at Loyola. they jumped on bus out of Baltimore and head north to Home before turning around a day later and head west to Bucknell). Nine hours on the bus with some school work packed in the middle of their 48 hours journey. Crazy. If true, Bucky should romp tomorrow night. No excuses, please.

I think you guys may be underestimating Colgate, they beat Bucknell twice. Tillotson is very dangerous.

Nerve-wracking as hell, after a comfortable first half. But we’re moving on! I’m glad to see American coming instead of BU, too.

What a game guys. What a game. Second half was really concerning. We bounced back. I am so pumped up right now. Don’t over look American. They have some talent and don’t forget they ended are season last year. Hopefully we use that to beat them up on Sunday

With the Lehigh win over Navy, I plan to be at the PL Tournament semifinal game on Sunday at Stabler Arena as part of a family visit. Woo hoo!

Considering I’ve seen American many times when Lehigh (and Lafayette) have come to the DC area, I was really hoping the Mountain Hawks, assuming they beat Navy, would play Boston U. Of course, I’ll take a game against American at Stabler over no game at Stabler (and ironically, a Navy/American game at Bender Arena).

I thought all along Navy would be a tough out for the Mountain Hawks. Though the other teams in the PL Tournament have the ability to knock off Lehigh, I like the Mountain Hawks’ chances better against those teams than I did against the Midshipmen.

Wish I could predict everything like the way I predicted the quarterfinals :)

I’m proudest of how I predicted Holy Cross could give Bucknell trouble with their defense. I knew with a 2-day turnaround they would be a hellacious draw. Even then it took a prayer at the end of the 1st OT to force the issue. It really looked like Bucknell finally ran out of gas in the second OT. It took a lot out of them to simply tie the game.

While I will refrain from picking the Lehigh/American game right now, I think Army/Holy Cross could be a bad matchup for the Crusaders.

I’m not sure if I should be saying this but our 2-10 team (against Div 1) beat American by 15. Our 10-0 team beat them by 23. Anything can happen.

Impossible to predict these games. PL seems closer this year in talent than any year in the past 10. Literally, any team can win anywhere. Home court doesn’t even seem to matter. In fact, I kind of like Lehigh on the road, even more than I like them in Stabler.

What gives me a good feeling is 1 and 3 seed are gone, we have played the remaining teams well, and AP didn’t play well last night, nor did Lehigh overall. I think we can raise our overall level of play. I don’t want to see HC in the final. I don’t like to see Cinderella in the final, although we will get either Cinderella HC (with 3 road wins and a good tactician in Carmody on the bench), or Army, who has never made the Dance. Tricky final either way. I like our chances on Sunday. We match up well with American, it seems.

    Go Lehigh!!

AP had a rough night, look for him to bounce back in a big way

I know it means nothing yet. I’m not putting cart before the horse. But latest Lunardi bracket on ESPN has us avoiding PIG, facing UVA in Raleigh.
If that happens, beers and ‘cue are on me, for board-mates.

    Raleigh!

If Lehigh beats American, you should spend some time watching ESPN at 7PM – the A-Sun championship. Stetson, who is ineligible for the conference championship (APR violations), plays Florida-Gulf Coast for the championship.

If FGCU wins, they will be a mortal lock for Dayton as a 16 seed PIG (RPI under 200). But if Stetson wins, North Florida (RT RPI: 162) would win the trip to the NCAAs and could end up ahead of Lehigh.

I gotta admit, a 16 seed PIG with Lehigh vs. FGCU… could be a lot of fun for the nation. (And the Nation, too.)

I’m very certain at 2PM on Sunday I’m not going to be thinking about Florida-Gulf Coast much, however.
