I was looking through the season stats today, and a couple things stuck out to me as really troubling.
Foul Shooting (Guards)
I like to see ball handlers on a college team shoot it well from the foul line. You are going to play a lot of close games, where teams will put you in the one and one and double bonus and try to close the gap late in games. I think it is critical that teams shoot it well down the stretch to close out games. So far, this season, for Lehigh:
KR 55.6% (dismal for a PG)
AP 66.7%
KL 66.7%TJ 83.3% (probably not on floor at end of games)
End of games, I think you see KR, AP and KL on floor with 2 bigs, TK (shooting 85.5%) and JG or JC. JG shooting 0.0% from the line (limited attempts) and JC is at 76.9%.
Other troubling stats:
Team FG % (offense) 40% (lowest in the PL)
Team Assist to Turnover – 107 assists to 110 turnoversPlay of JG
This is a biggie that stands out. Having just a terrible season, through injury, or another reason. He is way down in every category. Hope he gets healthy, and active.
Down 4.5 ppg
Down 12% in FG %, 16% from 2 years ago
Only 2 FT’s attempted in 8 games
Rebounds down 2 per game (5.8 to 3)
Blocks down from 1.3 pg to .6 pgHe has shown life in last 2 games, so hope trend continues.

December 17, 2015 at 8:32 pm #24352Great work, 90
Here are some added thoughts…….
A/FGM: Long time believer in this one. It comes as no surprise that the PL scoring leaders, Army and Bucknell, have the highest ratios in this regard of .645 and .622, respectively. We trail at .585. The lowest scoring offense in the PL belongs to AU. To no one’s surprise, their A/FGM is a meager .464.
KR and FTs: Hoping he returns to form. He is putting in extra time we are told. He did, after all, once had it figured out shooting .798 from the line in his freshman year. Also, KR is a stat machine and not a 3-point shooter (.238). Only DC, of those players with meaningful minutes, has a lower 3pt. shooting percentage than KR. Hoping he sticks to what he does best – penetrate and dish.
TJ: Not expecting much from our backup PG, but 1 assist every 12 minutes? Perhaps a bit unfair, but KR registers one every 5.4 minutes.
90, may your end of game lineup be our starting lineup! KL deserves a shot at both ends.
Blocks: Here’s one from KenPom. We have a whopping 15.7% of our shots blocked! That ranks us forth up from the bottom across the nation at #348.
JG: Strapped as we are for big men (actually all men), we need Goldy to remain healthy (can’t imagine a 7 man rotation) and get inspired in this his senior year. We need his boards practically as much as we need KR’s assists.
December 17, 2015 at 10:06 pm #2435565, I noticed similar on assists to turnovers and I know that is one of your biggies that you look for each year. American is dismal is every offensive category, by the way. I am hoping Lehigh’s offensive woes, and poor statistics (shooting FG % and A/TO ratio) have something to do with playing Virginia, Syracuse and Purdue out of our first 8. Definitely, the toughest schedule of its peers. But, worrisome nonetheless.
