A total cluster f*ck. D played a decent 1st half then proceeded to dissolve slowly then collapsed. Mayes had an incredibly bad night.Never imagined an 0-5 start. This team finds ways to shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly every week. And we end this fiasco with yet another INT with 35 seconds left. 5 for the night. Not even gonna bother with postgame. Tired of hearing that speech.

This should have been a pretty good team. Joe better figure out why it isnt.

All of the problems with this team, and somehow a healthy Ed Misch is what we’re wishing for? Curious

Post game interview before the power went out. Andy saw a big improvement in the defense except for the giving up some long runs. Defense really stepped up and gave the offense opportunities. Saw a big improvement this week in the defense. Andy is delusional.

Sterrett needs to address this now. Geez, if the coaches actually believe their own B.S. there is no hope for any improvement.

I watched last 10 minutes. Saw more missed blocks and tackles than I should see in an entire game.

    SLOPPY!

Coaches need to figure out how to better protect the QB and call plays that confuse the D a little more frequently. Opposing D seems to know our plays and blocking schemes all too well.

Kudos to LEHIGHFORLIFER for calling it the other day: “MY STRONG HUNCH IS THAT WAGNER RB TANDEM GETS WELL OVER 100 YDS AND GAME IS MUCH CLOSER OR POSSIBLY A WAGNER VICTORY”

I predicted one Wagner RB would get 100+ yards, but I think two did. Good news is LU D had best game of the year, <500 yards, but not by much. These big, long runs up the middle remind me of bad HS football.

    Exhibition season is over.

Sick to death of the spin every week. 0-5 demands more than spin. Yeah D made more stops got TOs and sacks but also gave up big runs by the bushel and we LOST. That is not an improvement it is an L.
No excuses for Mayes he had a terrible game. Entire squad had moments and some stretches of good play. Focusing on that is idiotic. Akin to Capt of Titanic complementing the band as the ship sinks.
We also had numerous mistakes TOs missed blocks and tackles dropped passes yada yada yada. Endless.

I would like to take a poll of those who would like to see Lehigh somehow win the next 6 game, win the league championship at 6-5, go to the playoffs, and give up 70 or so points to a CAA team. I am well aware that 6 wins in a row isn’t likely going to happen. I am pretty sure at this point that I don’t want it to happen. This would only make it much more difficult to address the coaching problem. I will take a win over Lafayette this year as my only requirement. At this point, any additional successes will only mask this mess. Imagine how Andy could sell 6 straight wins as masterful coaching, evidence of a complete turnaround from these first 5 games, and a reason to keep this group together going into next year.

So, my question: Is a league championship worth another year of this?

    Apt description LG. Embarrassing.
A winning record at this point seems mere fantasy.
Perspective tho entire PL sucks this year. Embarrassing OOC for this league.

If we would have graduated all 22 starters, and if we failed to recruit more than three players I doubt we could have looked worse through five games.

That this kind of performance is coming from the defending champions, and pre-season choice for the PL, not to mention early season top twenty choice…well, color me speechless!

Great points by Marco, Rich and Hawkineer.

    What’s crazy is …

… As tough it is to be a LU fan right now, it’s got to be worse to root for Holy Cross, the offensive juggernaut, which lost to seemingly lowly Laughayette on a last-minute field goal, 10-7.

The PL is in terrible disarray.

What if LU wins out? I’ve seen stranger things happen, not that I’m counting any chickens before they hatch.

Some more words of “wisdom” from the coach. Might want to drink a beer or two or three before readings Andy’s post game quotes on the Lehigh site:

    A few of the highlights:
“I’ll tell you what though. I saw a big improvement with the defense today. They had multiple stops and kept giving the ball back to our offense.” I guess with Penn and Yale as the baseline, hell we just witnessed something akin to Bama’s defense tonight.

” I thought we competed really well here today.” I hate this one more than any. It is what losing teams say to feel good about themselves, not winning teams.

My favorite was: “We could have, if we didn’t turn the ball over there on the last one, come close to getting back in the game actually.” Huh? What? The last TO (interception) came with 5 seconds left in the game. Aargh!!!!

I was there for this debacle. We keep finding ways to lose ball games. So many mistakes for a team of such high expectations. Yes, the D did improve from the prior two weeks, but it is still in dire need of aggressive tacklers. Some of our LB’s are undersized and get caught up in the OL, not being able to elude or get off blocks. The RB’s have huge lanes at time. The D did step up and get some third down holds, only to see the O fall on its face. We are pretty predictable on O. I don’t see any creativity. Mayes under a lot of pressure tonight which was significant in some of the INTs. Losing Casey hurt and no one other than Pelletier and Portorreal seemed able to get open. The run game improved some. But I could see the Wagner secondary anticipating where were were going at times.
Ironically, the Patriot League is looking like a dumpster fire, and this team is quite capable of winning the league after scanning the wreckage. I suspect the wind we experienced tonight was what helped Lafayette hold Pujals to 190 yards passing today, as the wind was coming out of the north. Lafayette also the last team to lose all OOC games and then win 6 straight to win championship. Can’t recall how long it’s been since Lehigh lost six games in a row..going back to New Hampshire. It must be decades. Colgate the only team to win OOC today over lowly Cornell, so they will feel good about themselves this coming week. Coen is going to have one heck of a job on his hands getting this team’s heads up. As already said, no one saw this coming. It’s one thing to know you are rebuilding have take your lumps, but totally another to be the “Champion in waiting” and be taken to the woodshed week after week. The number of mistakes is the most troubling for a team with a decent amount of experience. To me, it reflects a lack of focus and intensity that is need ON EACH PLAY. We are not that good to take plays off. We might have to go back to the Small years to find a stretch of such bad football. Something needs to be done to get someone’s attention if this continues next week in Hamilton. Thank you. This has been good for me after getting home from Staten Island. Now I can get some sleep….
