Figured it best to start a new thread, as Kahron commits on his official and on his 18th birthday, what a present to Coach Kroogs who worked hard to secure Ross. We are set at the guard spots for the next few years, Ross is a super quick, smooth out in transition, fast with the ball and a really good passer….good penetration abilities and appears crafty in finishing at the rim..

    Nice video in this link:

I’m right with you Hoops. I really like the Ross pickup from the perspective of bringing as much talent to Bethlehem as possible. I too am a little surprised at just how many guards we have brought in the past two years, but Ross certainly looks like he can play. His quickness is crazy on tape, and he appears to be an excellent passer.

Also, the athleticism of the recent recruits is pretty exciting. Lehigh has been playing at some of the faster adjusted paces in the country the last few years and over the past two recruiting classes I think we have gotten significantly more athletic.

Choose your 5 from Ross, Jenkins, Simelton, Price, Whitfield, Chuku, and Goldsborough and I don’t think there are any teams in the PL that can match up athletically.

Lastly, Kroogs seems super excited about Ross which is plenty to get me excited as well.

Yes SBum your reading this correctly. He is a talent and excited to have him, I hope this means that what staff has seen since July summer session that they are comfortable that Baltimore goldy chuku kempton and whitfield are enough up front for next two years because that’s the decision they essentially just made whether or not they knew it.

Agree man these are shaking up to be some serious athletic teams – if only we went heltler Skelter and pressed all game like louisville!

One has to assume that LU has two big men lined up for recruitment that are highly likely to sign.
Otherwise, loading up the team with guards makes little sense – no matter how athletic they are.
If JC or TK are out, the team will have a very tough time trying to compete.

It’s possible that there is one more scholarship available for the high school class of 2014. There are two variables. One the NCAA has a scholarship limit in men’s basketball of 13. Some Patriot League programs (Bucknell, Lafayette, maybe others) have put in a self imposed cap of 12. It is unclear wether Lehigh is offering 12 or the NCAA max of 13. If John Ross Glover is on scholarship, we are at the 13 number with Ross’s commitment. If JRG is a walk-on, that would put as at 12 with the POSSIBILITY to take one more player in the 2014 class.

Additionally, there has been very little chatter lately connecting Lehigh to any 2014 big men, so right now I would say it is unlikely, but not impossible that Lehigh brings in a big in this class. Bringing in two big men however is out of the question, unless one is a walk on.

    youngfan,
It is really not that unusual considering that we will be losing 2 guards at the end of this season and 2 guards and a big next season. That means that 4 of the next 5 to go are guards and JRG who is a big time leaper will be spending most of his time at #3.
If you look at the offers for 2015, it is loaded with big men. We will likely have 3 openings next year and I would not be surprised if every one of them is 6-6 or taller. Just a hunch.

If it is true he had offers from Tulsa and W. Kentucky (2 programs with great basketball tradition), among others, this is a good get from an area where we don’t traditionally sign recruits (although I think Gourley was from Arkansas, and we did dip into fertile Texas to sign Mackey). We are really getting guys from all over the place.

Only concern with this guy would be his size, he is pretty tiny at 5’10” and 150 lbs. Hope he continues to grow and can add strength to his body. Everything on him looks pretty positive.

Always helps to have a lot of guys who can handle the ball late in games, and hopefully shoot free throws in one and one and double bonus.

I guess he is in competition with MS and CS for point guard minutes when he arrives.

Is their a lot of doubt that JRG is on scholarship? He was offered a scholarship by us previously, he was a scholarship player at Lipscomb. It would seem highly unlikely he would give that up, to come to Lehigh and pay. Plus, I don’t think he could be a walk on, as per recruiting rules, since he was a recruited player.

    lehigh90,
I too believe he is on scholarship. Based solely on Sue Troyan’s allotment, I also believe that we are giving the full 13 schollies. Admittedly, that is not much to go on :-).
I don’t think though that being recruited precludes you from being a walk-on unless, however, the University is providing aid from other sources…need based, academic etc. As always, that may be incorrect too :-).

I have no idea how recent or how accurate this write-up of Kahron Ross is but he is listed at 6-1 and 165.

USA Today has him listed as 1st All-State and I believe All-Tournament Team

Read an Arkansas paper covering a feature story on Ross and about a half or two thirds through season he was 16.5 and 6.5 dimes, importantly assist to turnover was 4 to 1, better yet he hit 82 percent from charity stripe. I am pretty pumped we landed him and seeing video an reading articles it seems like a big win. He seemed to play well at major aau events versus top guards.
I read on some message board that his brother grew late, still trying to confirm that, not even sure he has a brother for tbag matter, but imagine he gets up to a legit 6 and 175.

    Re: JRG status

I guess he is in the same position as BJB was. He was recruited by Lehigh, offered, went elsewhere, then transferred to Lehigh. I remember having similar conversations about BJB’s status. Also recall Bison137 commenting at length and he seemed well versed on the topic. Seemed to be a distinction that if the player was recruited, he could not be a walk on, later. Or, something to that effect. I don’t know the exact answer, on this, but seems unlikely JRG not on scholarship.
