I already posted this in the recruiting thread, but I think Austin’s commitment deserves its own thread as well. Really excited about this kid, as not only is he a terrific player that I think can be a difference maker in the Patriot League from Day 1, but also represents a different class of recruit than typically considers LU. If we can keep it rolling and establish some real hoops tradition and consistency, it would be a wonderful thing to see.
We can get into the nitty gritty analysis of his game later, right now I’m just juiced that he decided to come to Bethlehem. Let’s goooooooooooooooooooooo!
September 26, 2012 at 2:27 pm #6865Wow. Did not think we had a real shot.
September 26, 2012 at 3:34 pm #6866Cross board venting. Praising Kempton amd Price as great recruits but complaining how we are out recruiting them by miles. One even blames it on coaches steering kids away from Cross due to firing of a coach.
September 26, 2012 at 7:17 pm #6869I too want to welcome Austin Price to Lehigh. I am sure he is a real talent but what am I missing here?
September 26, 2012 at 9:45 pm #6870Are you referring to his numbers? You aren’t missing anything. He was the 3rd option behind two players a year above him headed to Depaul (his brother Jordan) and Drake respectively, with at least 1 other D1 prospect on the roster. I would expect his scoring to go up significantly his senior year as he will get many more shots.
Here are his stats from the Nike EYBL (the best of the best of summer/AAU teams) this summer:
http://www.nikeeyb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/The-Family-through-Cali.pdf
He was 3rd in scoring behind James Young (offers from Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky, MSU, etc.) and E.C. Matthews who just chose URI over offers from Arizona, Missouri, USC, and more. He also shot 40% from three (although he could certainly be more efficient on 2’s). Wesley Clark who he outscored is ESPN top100 and headed to Missouri. Obviously these aren’t straight up comparisons as Clark is a point guard but you can see that he was holding his own with some of the best players in the country.
September 26, 2012 at 10:04 pm #6871Ditto to StablerBum. Detroit Country Day plays top flight competition in Detroit Metro and participates in several prestigious tournaments. Check out his videos on You Tube. You’ll see he could be very special. Iowa and some decent mid-majors think so. I’m excited after waiting this long for verbals to come in. Of course it all depends on how they develop. And with this coaching staff we haven’t been to shabby in the development department lately.
September 26, 2012 at 11:01 pm #6872Not sure where to put but kudos to 90 for a fantastic season preview. Cant wait for pt 2.
September 27, 2012 at 1:52 am #6876Wow, I don’t even know where to start, other then to say I’m really excited, really fired up boys. This is a huge get, and as I wrote about a few days ago when the Iowa visit got cancelled, we had a legit shot and AP is now a Mountain Hawk. Some great tweets today including a nice exchange between Kempton and Price, pretty good stuff.
Rich – thanks for the kind remarks above, I authored the season preview part I and actually just posted part II for your pleasure. I’m going to try to keep carving out time, as my schedule permits, to try to create content and drive exposure to the mountain hawks.
I’m actually really pleased with something I’m working on for later this week, which I absolutely know you, sbum, 65, 90 and others will love….love, just hope it gets completed in the next day or two to start to share with you all.

September 27, 2012 at 2:04 am #6877Wow, whoda thought Bball would finally wake up this boatd. 00 going back now to read part 2.
Still want to know who’s next . A big, another SF??. Boy this is fun.September 27, 2012 at 2:15 am #6878Yeah, BBall baby! All the credit goes to Chuck/LFN for graciously exhibiting trust and faith in me and allowing this expansion of bball content, and letting me play a small part in this. If you haven’t noticed, you will all see his football nation blog posts on this lehigh sports forum site, and you’ll see all of my bball content on this site and the bball facebook page. The main page here will have both football and basketball posts and then you can switch to see just pigskin or football in chronological order.
Enjoy

September 27, 2012 at 2:47 am #6881Just posted price article that I found, really good read.
FYI – I think a dream scenario would be hunter myers, he would be a dream fit…DREAM….
September 27, 2012 at 3:58 am #6882Agree that Myers is probably priority #1 and definitely a dream scenario. I would still really like a 6’9+ widebody in this class. That said, I’m really high on Shane Whitfield and Greg Senat as well. Mohammad Bah and Michael Owona are both interesting as true 5 men.
Lots of good options still on the table. Do we have any more info on visitors this weekend besides Whitfield?

September 27, 2012 at 6:30 am #6886Welcome to the League and Lehigh. Nice job coaching staff!
September 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #6887Agree, I mentioned that in Price blog, one of final two spots has to go to 6’9+ big center, bah is intriguing, but I know little about him. Bah plus Myers, and call it a day.
September 27, 2012 at 11:54 am #6888Per the web, Myers visiting harvard and Bah drexel this weekend. If Bah is coming to Phily from Maine, we should get him to swing by Bethlehem for a little tour!
