Lehigh Gets Their Man – Welcome Austin!

As posted on 9/21, many believed Austin Price to be Lehigh’s number one target in the class of 2013, and last night Austin gave a verbal commitment to Dr. Reed & staff. This is a huge get for Lehigh, as Price is a very talented guard who can play the 1 and the 2.

Price talks about his decision in an interview he gave earlier today, excerpts and link below:

Price on why Lehigh: “Lehigh’s got great coaching, really good academics, and I also liked the fact that the players had a lot of chemistry,” said Price, who added he made his final decision on Sunday. “I got along with the players really well. The social life on campus is really nice, and I like the fact that they’ve got the ability to make it to the NCAA tournament as well.”

Price on whether win versus Duke helped land him: “I knew a little bit about the school, the players that they had there, so that probably helped a little bit,” Price said when asked if the school’s NCAA tournament victory helped when Lehigh first got involved in his recruiting this April. “That’s not really why I made my decision to go there, but it helped me recognize who the school was.”

Price on his game: “The best thing I do is shoot the ball,” he acknowledged when asked about his game. “Really good at defending, that’s another thing I’m good at. I play point and some 2-guard…this summer I played mostly 2-guard. Get to the basket and I have a nice pull-up game too.”

With Price & Kempton committed to the Mountain Hawks, the next question is where does Reed & staff go next? Lehigh should have two more spots to secure in the ’13 class, and best guess is that one of those has to go to another big with both Gabe & Holden graduating, hopefully a legit big bodied center. If Lehigh gets another big to go along with Kempton, it would give them some added flexibility to go with best player available for the fourth scholarship offer.

As always, stay tuned.
