The seeming lack of staff changes and scheme is ridiculous. No known effort to reinvigorate the home stadium experience. Oh, well. Enjoy it!

Yes, ngineer. That could be an issue, especially for lower level spectators. Despite that, I can see a large board being used for graduation speakers, outdoor concerts, and to entertain everyone on the student hill, right outside the gate (tent city), etc.

Additionally, if placed on the hill end, the student tailgaters will never come inside!

Job 1 for this new initiative needs to be securing a substantial size video board stretching the length of the Goodman Stadium locker room roof. Not just a simple, pedestrian, small corner unit, but an enhancement to the event experience in of itself. That includes enthralling those on the end zone hill and beyond.

There is SO much to do with such an upgrade, not to mention its sales potential. This goes beyond football, too.

The Goodman game day experience has grown tired.

I’ll continue to believe this Lehigh team created a better second half of the season DESPITE the coaching staff.

Obviously, the defensive people need a big revamp. That will happen best with a new Defensive Coordinator. But, there’s more. The offensive ‘educators’ need a new look, too. The team seemed unprepared to enter the season and spent the first half of the schedule catching-up. That’s also on staff.

. . . and do something better with those ‘blah’ team uniforms. Wide stripes down the leg, names on jerseys, etc. Little things matter in renewals, too.

I’m hopeful the paid staff surrounding these young athletes kicks-up the ENTIRE enterprise. On and off the field!

    Good prediction, marco!

My head is still spinning after last year’s total and inexcusable collapse. Many of the same decision-makers remain in place, so….
thank heavens for the Freshman class!

I’ll go with Lehigh here, 38-28, but probably drink heavily throughout. So insecure.

    Objective Observer –

We get it. You coach your kid’s Pee Wee team, wear a Dallas Cowboys jersey, want to promote Mayes (I like him, too) and think your expertise here transcends that of every other poster.

    Boy, would you be surprised!

Generally speaking, the current Lehigh coaching staff HAS failed over the past few seasons. Changes ARE required. There IS some light showing through, no doubt, but the ‘lumens’ should be much greater, given the talent and intelligence of the players attracted to a place like Lehigh. For me, these players are progessing DESPITE lackluster coaching.

I expect Lehigh to win this weekend. If not, I want not just coaching change, but MANY coaching changes.

This IS about coaching/recruiting. If you can do it better here . . . .

    YOU apply !

I don’t much care who the quarterback is, actually. Just think Lehigh players are bright enough to handle more complex schemes and a bigger playbook. I suppose that includes more ability to adjust at halftime with better solutions, too.

This is a tough one to call. The best I can do is say, NO I do not expect Lehigh to win this game. Anytime a Lehigh team faces a good passing quarterback I expect our secondary to be picked apart. This is true for all seasons, not just this one.

The Lehigh team DOES seem to be improving and remains motivated to play hard. Problem is, every opposing team is doing the same! Even Lafayette is showing a pulse.

The Lehigh team needs to stop Holy Cross on third and long. That usually means a pass attempt. This team will need to make the opposing quarterback feel the heat and take a chance before he is comfortable.

It will be great if Lehigh enters the 4th quarter up at least 7. The offense can probably match Holy Cross in scoring from that point on.

This is a big game for Lehigh in its current condition. I hope I am pleasantly surprised by the final score!

Rich is leaning here toward one of my constant beliefs. That is, it’s not fair to place too much blame on the player.

The player uses what he was TAUGHT, runs what he is TOLD, where he was PLACED, only when he is DIRECTED, and for a GIVEN amount of opportunity. There’s a whole lot of ‘COACH’ in the process.

The responsibility to make quick, corrective adjustments when needed lies mostly with the PAID participants, too.

This year’s staff needs to improve, or be changed. My preference was to have seen MOST of that change happening right after last season, but here we are.

I really have to admire the fight in these players. Looks like they are giving everything they can when asked.

Fully agree. The young running backs are showing something, too!

Too bad the paid adults didn’t have this team prepared to start the season. The players are giving all they have. That’s all anyone can ask of them. Despite the injuries (something every team faces) the future looks good. All that’s needed is a better group of ‘pros’ to feed them properly and turn them loose.

I have mixed feelings about the latest loss. More a sense of indifference, as I have mostly written off the current Lehigh football program.

Must say, the team effort since Bucknell IS improved. I thought the players went toe-to-toe with Fordham all the way. They certainly weren’t outclassed yesterday. The defense looked to be more ‘into it’ as crazy as that sounds given the score. I saw some good movement, some swarming, and more intensity. The players are giving all they have to offer. I have a hunch there will only be one more loss this season.

We’ve been watching this for more than 50 years, won’t stop. What’s important, the players don’t seem to have drifted-off, just us.

Rich, I wouldn’t want to see Lehigh spend much money to accommodate a soccer effort involving a team from a series that has a league-wide attendance average of about 3500.

Looking long term, it would seem to make better sense to enlarge and enhance the current press box in a way that satisfies everyone. Obviously, I don’t see much value in the Visitor’s side as it currently stands.

Prior crowds of 12-15K were NOT so much due to greater student attendance. Those higher totals were due to area fans attending in greater number than now.

The question I’ve had on this topic was ‘what’s the objective for ANY change.’ TMH seems to suggest growing in-person attendance is not the objective of this proposal. That’s too bad.

So, I suppose the current plan is to provide a better press box, and re-purposing the current press box. Probably to make the current press box open and capable of hosting a few small, private party viewing rooms.

    Is this the objective, TMH?

    StablerBum has the RIGHT approach.

Make the in-person fan experience better! The current atmosphere at Goodman is STALE, and erecting solar panels is not what will cause students to suddenly realize “Gee, maybe we really should go to the games.”

Remember that brief, but ridiculous, prohibition of students from sitting on the grass banks? Or, the heavy-handed administration control of student tailgating, including noise and when they must shut down? Is there a student dress code to go along with that?

A giant video board is a must inclusion. So is continuous bus service to/from using a greater number convenient campus locations. Envelope the students with the experience, not discourage them.

As I always mention, the distance to the front sideline is off-putting to ALL fans, and reduces the excitement. Lehigh COULD simply use the front sideline designated for soccer. If anything, the opposite side seating should be moved-in. Either with temporary seating, or a rebuild using some of the existing pre-fab sections. Now, that’s a challenge for the engineering brainiacs at Lehigh!

Creating a new pressbox structure over there on the back of the current structure isn’t going to kick-start fan enthusiasm, nor increase overall attendance.

The home front sideline can easily be moved closer to the home stands. Then, for every home game, place temporary bleacher sections behind the visitor’s bench, maybe 8-10 rows high.

For a home Lafayette event, or other large pre-sale match-up, do not place the temporary bleachers behind the visitor’s bench. Instead, place them in the end zones, or on either side of the upper level grandstand.

Certain things CAN be done to improve the game day experience, for those 5-6 home events.
