Recruiting Update on Austin Price

Austin Price, a combo guard out of Detroit, Michigan who attends Detroit Country Day School and played his AAU ball for The Family squad, is a man who possesses a high skill set and is a rivals 3 star rated recruit. Many believe that Austin is Lehigh’s number one priority in the 2013 recruiting class, and Austin has announced via twitter that his college choices are Lehigh, Yale, and Iowa(despite possessing over a dozen scholarship offers). Having completed his official visits to both Lehigh and Yale earlier this month, Austin was scheduled to take his official to Iowa this weekend, which has left many followers of the LU program holding their breath(myself included). Austin has said he is going to try to make a decision after his official to Iowa.

Earlier today, a potentially overwhelmingly positive story broke via the Internet and Twitter. Rob Howe, who runs the Iowa Scout site Hawkeye Insider has reported via Twitter that Austin has cancelled his official visit to Iowa because former Lehigh coach Fran McCaffery is expecting a verbal from another recruit. Fran and his staff only have one more scholarship to offer to the 2013 class and they are in need of a guard.

’13 MI CG Austin Price Says #Iowa Cancels Official This Wknd Because #Hawkeyes Expect Verbal from Someone else. Said it’s Not EC Matthews

Here is a Bleacher Report article discussing this topic:

Interesting enough, the commitment isn’t coming from EC Matthews, Austin Price’s AAU teammate, as EC’s high school coach says Iowa has stopped recruiting EC because they expect an offer from an in-state recruit, most likely wing Peter Jok.

Should this report be accurate, and there is no reason to believe it isn’t at this point, this is really positive news that definitely enhances the potential that Reed & staff can lock up their top priority in Austin Price.

Stay tuned folks.

Feel bad that Iowa pulled the rug out from under Austin, but hopefully he would have picked LU anyway. Fingers seriously crossed that Austin decides to come to Bethlehem.

Price is likely a good get for LU, but he is not a Rivals 3 star player. He has no stars from Rivals and 2 stars from Scout.
