Mayes is a 3* and is on record as saying he turned down a “Tier 2” scholarship (FIU) to come to Lehigh. I don’t think you can generalize why some kids choose to come to Lehigh or not. Some might have gone to a Lehigh/Lafayette game when they were 9, others might have googled the team jersey and liked it. The reasons are varied.
