Rich- with any semblance of defense, we’re the team to beat next year. If we play the same way we’re at best a 5 or 6 win team. Not a dominant D, just hold tezms to 30…

Yeah. I thought at the beginning of the season that we could win 7-8 with a mediocre D. If we get that next year,we can do even better.

Very frustrating, because at times the D looks good, but then big gainers explode and stupid mistakes bite.I did not see the aggressive penetration that we had against HC. Maybe some credit to ‘gate’s OL< but it didn’t seem to me we blitzed much. With a 3 front, you have to blitz a good QB like Melvile.

First LU senior class since ’93 to not win at least one PL championship. Seems like a pretty good reflection of the state of the program.

Since three different teams have won the championship in the last three years, the scholarship transition is an illegitimate defense.

Based upon this year’s results, it is clear the PL has tremendous parity. Other than Laughyette, the rest of the League was very competitive. Next two years should be major winning seasons considering the offensive talent; but the state of the defense needs major surgery and rehab.

Just a suggestion. You might want to wait until next week before making such a declaration. What would a third straight loss to the Pards, including the current 1-9 non-competitive version, say about where we are? :-(

    Hawkineer:

    Point well taken but …

The stomping we took on our home field when Pards players and fans gathered on the Mountain Hawk to celebrate two years ago said a lot. Last year was a major embarrassment on a big stage.

Some of us would rather not think about an L next week.

An L next week? Pards have 2 weeks to get healthy and prepare. Even if today’s team shows up again we will win.
Honestly ,dont even want to think about next week. Guess, cause hell we could screw it up like we have the last two.

looking ahead to next year, we lose Laub, Palma, Kondos, Robb, Lawson, Rigaud, Wilmington from the 2 deep, if these are our best this year (big assumption I guess) that does not bode well for next year D

since the O seems pretty well set other than replacing a couple OL, need some stud defenders recruited

Second to coaching, injuries do play a part of our D woes.
We get back Lambert and Barrett at Rover,Githens at SS and Stubbs at DE.
Reportedly Githens has bedn cleared for Saturday.
That will not solve D issues. We all have witnessed the ineffectiveness of our D for the last three years. Coaching, talent ,depth ?? Dont know what the answer is. Just know Andy has to figure it out.

Biggest change would be to ditch the standard rover and find some bigger, quick guys up front or at LB. Would DJ be able to return on a fifth year?

Top three losses: Laub and Robb had very good careers. Palma has been very good this year. IMHO, if you can improve on them and fix scheme/coaching issues, D can be decent enough to win the PL, given what we have on O.

    Not sure on DJ.
Robb and Laub have bern solid. Only isdue with them has bedn Botts moving them rvery year. Palma a very good pass rusher. Not much of a space eater on runs.
Honestly dont believe talent is our problem. There is enuf athletic ability to build a decent D. Injuries and inexperience have hurt this year but they do not fully explain the continued helplessness of that unit. On paper,we could be better, can this staff do that??
