Five Things to Watch, Keys To the Game, Fearless Prediction: Lehigh at Sacred Heart, 11/16/2019

You can read College Sports Journal’s preview of the game here, and my mostly-football-free “Tailgate Report” here.

Below, we’re going to do a quick once-over of Lehigh’s game notes and possible injuries, then we’ll dive right into 5 things to look for with Sacred Heart, my Keys to the game, and the cherry on top will be my Fearless Prediction.

Keith Groller of The Morning Call headlined his piece “Lehigh football tries to regroup at Sacred Heart with season slipping away“.  Part of the article talked about the frustration of last week’s 20-10 loss to Bucknell.

“We didn’t handle our business, but all you can do is learn from it and plan to fix it for the future,” senior WR Dev Bibbens said. “We need to win this game and get things turned around against a quality opponent. There’s always a lot to play for. Any time you have an opportunity to play a game on a Saturday, that’s a lot. We don’t take that opportunity lightly. We’re going to fight.”

Lehigh at Sacred Heart Tailgate Report, 11/16/2019: Phony Mustaches, Seniors, Buttery Drinks, And More

Welcome back to the Lehigh Tailgate Report, a free public service from your pals over at Lehigh Football Nation.

The idea of the Lehigh Tailgate Report is to provide a fun report on what to expect at the game, or not at the game, for this week’s upcoming game.

If you’re planning to go to the game, great! It’s at Campus Field this Saturday in Fairfiled, CT at noon.

If you can’t make it to the game, it’s is available to watch or listen in a variety of ways.

The local radio broadcast, which starts an hour before kickoff and sets the table for the day’s game, can be caught on your AM dial on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230 or 1320. Matt Kerr, Jim Guzzo, and Matt Markus are on the call this Saturday.

Through internet radio, the pregame, game, and postgame can be streamed through TuneIn or just simply going to the LVFoxSports.com webpage. Full disclosure: When I’m at home, this is my preferred method to catch the game action. Streaming the audio is #LFNApproved.

If not, you can stream the game over the internet vie NEC Front Row, the free streaming service from the NEC. Be glad, Lehigh fans, that we can stream our football games over the internet from free, and not (yet) have to pay for Lehigh+, a brand-new streaming service that costs $99/month.

My Vote for the FCS Top 25, 10/25/2016

My Vote for the FCS Top 25, 10/25/2016

You didn’t ask for them, but here’s my pick for this week’s FCS Top 25.

“Back to Normal” seems to be the theme of this week’s Top 25, with my top 9 unchanged from last week.

The biggest team to fall in my poll was definitely Montana, whose 45-34 defeat to Northern Arizona was even more resounding than the final score might indicate.  The Lumberjacks in this one held a 45-20 advantage before letting up two touchdowns at the end of the game.

The Griz have frankly underwhelmed all year to me, allowing a team like St. Francis (PA) to hang around for no good reason, running up the score against hapless competition like Mississippi Valley State and Sacramento State.  With their second loss to a Big Sky opponent and nothing all that impressive in their schedule, it was an easy call to drop them more than 10 points in my poll.

My FCS Top 25, 10/4/2016

You didn’t ask for them, but here’s my pick for this week’s FCS Top 25.

This week’s candidate for the LFN Top 25 curse?  Sacred Heart, with Colgate a very close second, but there were a lot of teams in the lower reaches of my Top 25 that suffered defeat, in a list that includes Fordham, Southern Utah and (again) William and Mary, who suffered a second straight crushing defeat in two weeks, this time at the hands of New Hampshire.

Never in a million years did I ever think Tennessee State, Cornell and North Carolina A&T would simultaneously be in my Top 25, yet there they are.

Let’s see, are there any other teams I can curse into losses this week?

Last time I was here, I was extolling the virtues of William and Mary and Stony Brook in this space.  This week?  Um, not so much.
