toddcudd you are correct as far as Lehigh’s all-time leading scorer but I meant the PL all-time leading scorer.
April 30, 2013 at 4:38 pm #10257I have reported many things on this board about CR and I am a huge fan of this kid as a player and person. However, comparing him to CJ is a little premature. As I stated early CJ is a once in a lifetime type PL player, probably why he is the all-time leading scorer. I think the unknown is fascinating and as I said earlier I will be shocked if CR does not become a successful player for Lehigh in some capacity. As an avid fan of college athletics it is difficult to predict who will become a star and who will only last one semester. So many factors are at play, academics, health, home-sick, style of play, work ethic, desire, etc… I am anxiously awaiting the upcoming years to see who will have an impact and who will fade away. The interest in CR will continue as we all root for underdogs and the unknown as I said is fascinating. The only thing for certain is that at this time next year we will have some more information and will be talking about what might happen next. That is what makes sports so wonderful.
April 25, 2013 at 6:00 pm #10213Oh I agree!
April 25, 2013 at 4:38 pm #10211I watched CJ compete for the past few years and I would not dare to compare CR with him yet. What I know is this, you are spot on with your assessment and the future will depend on work ethic and desire to improve everyday. I do not agree with the single sport athlete opinion. If you look up and down must Division 1 rosters in any sport I bet you will find more multiple sport kids than single sport kids. However, as I have looked deeper into CRs career since joining this board, I have heard reports of him working out at 5am during football season to improve his skills. He will need to continue bringing this mentality to be successful.

April 16, 2013 at 12:10 pm #10147Cole looked to be a possible 1 or 2. He is a tremendous passer and really sees the floor well. He has the ability to guard a one and is physical enough to even guard a 3. He completely frustrated the MD point guard and banged with the bigs to haul in 6 rebounds. His speed and athleticism are not a question. During pre-game Cole was easily going off two feet with some highlight film dunks. His speed up and down the court was also very apparent. I also found out after speaking with his coach at the game that Cole decided to run track this year and in his first ever competitive event broke the school’s record in the 100 and 200. 10.8 something in 100 and 22 something in 200. I don’t see athleticism ever being an issue. To be honest I cannot believe this kid is not a full scholarship player.
The Husek kid is a legit 6’11. He has a very soft touch and stepped out and hit two threes in the game. He is not afraid to be physical but has a long way to go on his post game. He did not look very comfortable with his back to the basket and is a little slow of foot. His lack of athleticism was apparent on the defensive end but his length is tremendous. He has the potential to be a very good player in the future but I don’t see him dominating like Muscala at any point in his career. I am not an expert so I could be wrong on all accounts but this is my opinion.
The Alexander kid is extremely explosive and looks like he can be a star in PL. Physical athletic and versatile. Has the ability to run the floor shoot and handle. Will be surprised if he does not start or contribute significantly as a freshman. I really like this kids game. Took smart shots moved well without the ball and played on the defensive end. This speaks to his competitiveness as most kids don’t defend in an all-star setting. HC got a really good player.
April 15, 2013 at 4:10 pm #10132How many OOC games total can Lehigh schedule? I would be in favor of going the Gonzaga, Butler route play anyone anywhere. Not sure of financial implications but have always been in favor of playing the absolute best OOC schedule possible.
April 15, 2013 at 4:05 pm #10131Thanks I am sure you are right but I am sure I heard this exact scenario with an undergraduate player at a D2 level football program. I very well might have misunderstood the situation. Only reason I remember is the player transferred from one D2 school to another without sitting out and almost won the Harlen Hill trophy.(D2 Heisman)
April 15, 2013 at 3:21 pm #10128I believe you can transfer without sitting out if you are enrolled in a specific major and the university drops the major or does not offer specific major. You must show proof the only reason for transfer is based on academics. Very hard to prove and only heard of it done once.
April 15, 2013 at 2:09 pm #10124I am almost positive that he will have to sit a year unless he gets a waiver from the NCAA. He must show some sort of hardship or significant academic reason to receive the waiver. Sitting a year may not be a bad thing, chance to get stronger and develop without losing a year of eligibility. He will be needed much more in 2014/2015 season in my opinion.
April 15, 2013 at 1:45 pm #10122Watched Cole Renninger completely take over PA vs. MD all-star game played at East Pennsboro High School April 13th. Renninger hit three with 4 seconds on clock to send game into OT, then PA put the ball in his hands tied in OT with 6.5 seconds left. Drove the length of the court and made sweet dish to low block for winning layup. Renninger finished with 11pts, 12assists, 3 stls, and six boards. Huge steal coming all the way from behind with PA down two under 30 seconds left in OT. The game had at least two other players committed to the Partriot League and a number of PA all-state players. You can view results and game roster at http://www.pahoops.org.
March 21, 2013 at 1:35 pm #9902This kid has some great skill and athletic ability but awfully small. 5’10 140. Reminds me of the Carr kid from Baltimore but not nearly has gifted athletically. I watched the Carr kid get completely shut down twice in games by teams that played solid disciplined defense with size. My main concern is can this kid be productive against solid defensive schemes at the college level. What does everyone else think?
March 19, 2013 at 3:11 pm #9859I think anytime you have an opportunity to play you take it. Although, LU may be undermanned the team taking the flight will largely be the team on the floor next year. A chance to compete against any top 100 school will only benefit the players going into the off-season, especially if they make a run. I am excited to see how team plays with many factors staked against them i.e. travel, altitude, injuries.
March 19, 2013 at 2:51 pm #9858I think that anytime you have an unknown entity like this kid, it is a hopeful project. I agree that a big question is can he play PG or is he a combo guy that can handle the ball at times when needed. I do not see any problems with his release point and when you score like he did not sure it matters. Some guys can just put in the basket. Shawn Marion has the worst release I have ever seen and was pretty effective at the highest level.
I just read an article about Cole receiving a scholarship form the National Football Assoication as a scholar athlete, appears this kid is the complete package as a person. Also asked around and was told Cole was offered a number of D1 scholarships to play football which speaks to his athletic ability.
March 15, 2013 at 6:25 pm #9812Any word on expected invite? NIT? Will CJ play in tourney?
